RICEVILLE — James Sweeney, 30, of LeRoy, Minn., died Sunday (Dec. 6, 1998) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Riceville, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral Home, Riceville. A rosary service will begin at 4:30 p.m.
James Everett Sweeney was born on May 4, 1968, at Osage Memorial Hospital in Osage, the son of Patrick and Judy (Keeton) Sweeney. He attended school in Riceville, graduating from the Riceville High School in 1986. He then attended two years at Iowa Lakes Community College and one year at Winona State University, Winona, Minn. He lived in the Riceville and LeRoy, Minn., communities.
On October 4, 1997, he was united in marriage to Jessica Purkapile at the Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville.
Jim worked for Midstates Retreading-Bandag in Rochester, Minn., and DJ of "Shock Wave." He was a member of the Jaycees. Jim liked hunting and fishing, football, snowmobiling and music. He would do anything for anyone. He loved his wife and all his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica; his mother, Judy Portis and her husband, Kenneth, of Riceville; his paternal grandmother, Viola Sweeney, of McIntire; his maternal grandmother, Pat Keeton, of Russell; one sister, Tara Krukow and her husband, Jamie, of Riceville; a nephew, Joshua Krukow; his in-laws, Ron and Mary Purkapile, of LeRoy, Minn.; his grandmother-in-law, Irene Purkapile, of LeRoy, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Clint and Lucas Purkapile; and a sister-in-law, Michelle Campbell.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Sweeney in 1989; his grandfather, Joseph Sweeney; and his maternal grandfather, Fred Keeton.
