Oscar Bertinus Nelson, 1880-1964
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Oscar Nelson, 84, well known farmer of this area, who died at his home last Wednesday. He was found by his son, Obert Nelson, who lives a short distance from his father's home. Death was apparently caused by a heart attack as Mr. Nelson sat in a rocking chair.
The Rev. Donald Berg, church pastor, was in charge of the services and the family prayer service preceding, at the Rock Creek Lutheran church. C.R. Champion and Sons made arrangements, and burial was in Rock Creek cemetery.
Oscar Bertinus Nelson was born on the family farm in Rudd Township, Floyd County on June 2, 1880 to Nels and Inga Olson Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran, where he remained a member all of his life. He attended the rural school near his home.
His marriage to Etta Sophia Iverson took place in Wallingford on September 1, 1907 and they made their home on the Nelson farm near Rudd.
His wife died April 11, 1962. One granddaughter, Joyce Nelson, his parents, three brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Obert Nelson of rural Rudd, and Mrs. Alvin (Alma) Kling of rural Osage, three grandsons, and one sister, Mrs. Tina Naig of Osage.
Mr. Nelson was trustee at Rock Creek Lutheran for several years and was parochial school director in the past. He was also a member of the Floyd County Co-op Oil Company. He farmed until his retirement four years ago.
