Anne Marie (Norby) Lundene, 1864-1939

Anne Marie Lundene, daughter of Halstein Iversen and Taran Olsen Norby, was born in Dane County, Wisconsin on October 10, 1864. At the age of five, she came with her parents and three brothers to Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. The years of her childhood and youth were spent in the parental home.

Mrs. Lundene received her Christian education in the Rock Creek Lutheran church and her secular education in the rural schools of the community.

On March 29, 1886, she was married to Anton Lundene at the Rock Creek Lutheran church and immediately afterwards they located on their farm in Floyd County, where they continued to live until they moved to Osage.

Mr. Lundene preceded her in death on March 15, 1929.

The last few years of her life were spent at the homes of her children, where kind hands cared for her.

She is survived by seven children: Amos, of Otranto; Mrs. Olga Horgen, of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Elmer (Alice) Larson, of Mitchell County; Hans and Mrs. Lloyd (Cora) Larson, of Floyd County; Mrs. Ervin (Mabel) Nelson, of Waterloo; and Mrs. Elza (Ida) Steelman, of Minneapolis. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Norby, of this community, and Edward Norby, of Washburn, ND; two sisters, Mrs. N.J. (Caroline) Johnson, of Osage, and Mrs. Elizabeth Klemesrud, of Whittier, CA, besides many nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Lundene was confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church and has always been an esteemed and loyal member. She was also a charter member of the Ladies' Aid society, and active as long as her health permitted. During the last four years her health had gradually failed and she passed away suddenly at the home of her daughter, Olga Horgen on April 17, 1939. The cause of her death was a heart attack.

Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. O.C. Myhre, from the Champion Funeral home at 1 o’clock and at the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 o'clock on April 19, 1939. Interment was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
