LUND, Dorothea (nee Peterson) 1850-1930

Dorothea M. Lund
Dorothea M. Lund, daughter of Peter J. and Johanna M. Peterson, was born in Denmark, December 18, 1850. She died in her home in Saint Ansgar, Iowa, February 20, 1930, just short of eighty years of age - the last of a family of thirteen children.
At the early age of nineteen she made the long journey across the atlantic int he spring of 1869. She stopped a year in Chicago with friends before coming to Mitchell County, in 1870.
On October 19, 1872, she was married to Andrew N. Lund in the First Lutheran Church, by it's founder. Fifty years later, when the friends in the church honored them in the observance of their Golden Wedding Day, it was her pleasure to recall the suspicious beginning if what had then proved a more than ordinarily happy home life of half a century. Today, after seven years more of closest companionship in that home life, which grew more beautiful year by year, coming again to this hallowed place we feel her heart would hold one sentiment: "Surely goodness and mercy have folled me all the days of my life" - and the loved ones from whom she has gone know that she will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lund: Adolph, who died in 1911; John, Adeline Allen, and Jennie Sponheim, to all of whom is left the priceless heritage of a Good Mother. And the memory of Grandma Lund will be held in deepening affection by her twelve grandchildren.
Mrs. Lund failed in health several years ago, an anaemic condition resulting. Though she had been given much relief, this ailment eventually proved fatal. Through her failing health she was always cheerful and unselfish, thinking first of all and always of her loved ones and not of herself. She took a keen interest in life. Sociability and cheerfulness were characteristic of her always. Her many friends loved to come and visit with her, and she in turn greatly enjoyed their friendship.
She loved all the dear old hymns of faith and till the very last would join in the singing of them. Her faith in the Lord Jesus was simple and satisfying - an utter trust for this life and the life to come. In that faith she fell into a peaceful sleep, in her at once a blessing and a benediction and we lay her away in
"An old age, serene and bright
As lovely as a Lapland night."
