OBITUARY: Thea Olga (Lundene) Horgen, 1891-1950

Thea Olga Lundene Horgen

Thea Olga Horgen, daughter of Anton and Marie Norby Lundene, was born on May 18, 1891 in Floyd County, Iowa. She died at the home of her son, Kenneth, near St. Ansgar on March 11, 1950. The cause of death was a heart attack.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church. She was educated in the public schools of her native community, after which she attended both the St. Ansgar and Cedar Valley seminaries. After this, she taught in the rural schools of Floyd County for four years.

On June 7, 1913, she was united in marriage with Edwin R. Horgen. The Horgens first farmed south of Osage, later moving to a farm northwest of Osage. After her husband’s health failed, Mrs. Horgen together with her sons, operated a farm northwest of St. Ansgar for eight years.

The past two years Mrs. Horgen has been an assistant in preparing lunches in the St. Ansgar schools.

Survivors include her husband and four children: Glendon, of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Robert (Marvelyn) Frank, of Chicago; Kenneth and Virgil, of St. Ansgar. One daughter, Theresa Lucille, died in infancy. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two brothers: Hans, of rural Rudd and Amos, of rural Otranto; and four sisters: Mrs. Elmer (Alice) Larson of Osage, Mrs. Lloyd (Cora) Larson of Rudd, Mrs. Ervin (Mabel) Nelson of Waterloo, and Mrs. Elza (Ida) Steelman, of Yakima, WA.

Funeral services were held March 14, at the Osage Lutheran church and burial was in the Osage cemetery.

MRS. HORGEN DIES
AT 58 IN OSAGE

OSAGE, IOWA - Mrs. Thea Olga Horgen, 58, died at midnight Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage at the home of her son, Kenneth, near Mitchell, Iowa, where she had been making her home.

She was employed by St. Ansgar public schools. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at Osage, time to be determined by the arrival of a daughter. Burial will be in Osage cemetery.

The daughter of Anton and Mary Norby Lundene, who was born near Rudd, Iowa, May 18, 1891(?).

She was educated at St. Ansgar seminary and taught rural schools. She was married to Edwin Horgen in 1913, and lived on a farm north of Osage until two years ago.

Survivors are her husband, of Colwell, Iowa; three sons: Virgil and Glendon, both of St. Ansgar; Kenneth of Mitchell, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Frank, Chicago; four sisters, Mrs. Elmer Larson and Mrs. Lloyd Larson, both of Osage; Mrs. Irvin Nelson, Waterloo, and Mrs. Elva Steelman, Yakima, Washington; brothers, Amos Lundene, Minnesota, and Hans, Rudd, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Theresa.
