ELLINGSON, HOUGEN, THOERSON, SEVERSON

Death claimed Barbro Hanson Ellingson, aged 91, New Year's day at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.O. Severson, Carpenter. Mrs. Ellingson, was the oldest child of Ole O. Hougen and Ingeborg Thoerson and was born at Flaa, Halingdal, Norway, November 22, 1846. She came with her parents to Mitchell county in 1866 and settled on a farm in Newburg township. That same year she was married to Bjorn Ellingson and settled on a farm in Barton township. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive her.
In 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Ellingson retired from the farm and moved to the village of Carpenter. Her husband died in 1919, and Mrs. Ellingson continued to live at Carpenter until 1932 when she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. A.O. Severson.
Mrs. Ellingson was a member of the St. Ansgar congregation until the time of the organization of the Deer Creek congregation in 1877, being one of the charter members.
Mrs. Ellingson was always an active woman and enjoyed life in her later years in spite of failing eyesight and her advanced years. Eight months ago she had a general breakdown and took to her bed where she remained until the time of her death.
She is survived by four children, Elling Ellingson, Carpenter, Ole at Austin, Gunder on the home place in Barton township, and Mrs. A.O. Severson, Carpenter. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Deer Creek Lutheran church, Tuesday, January 5, with Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge. Interment was in the First Lutheran cemetery.
Pallbearers were her six grandsons; Benny Ellingson, Victor Ellingson, Walter Ellingson, Leland Ellingson, Glen Ellingson and Orvie Severson.
Those from away who attended the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Tufte, Northfield, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Anderson, Kensett; Miss Ida Hansen, Northwood; Mrs. B.C. Boston, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Ellingson, Austin; Mrs. Ole Nelson, Austin; Miss Emily Ellingson, Austin; Nick Severson, Lyle.
