Funeral services were conducted last Sunday afternoon from the First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar for Mrs. Barbara Ellingson, who died at the home of her son, Walter at Northwood, July 26, 1939.

Barbara Thorson Ellingson was born at St. Ansgar, Iowa, August 14, 1880, and was both baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar by the Rev. Olson.

Her girlhood days were spent in the St. Ansgar vicinity where she received her grade school education and later attended the Seminary at Nora Springs.

In 1898 she was united in marriage to Gunder Ellingson by Rev. Olson. Her husband preceded her in death by two years. After their marriage they moved to the homestead owned by Mr. Ellingson's father, but which they later purchased and made their home until shortly before Mr. Ellingson's death. The place is now operated by a son, Leland.

Later Mrs. Ellingson purchased a home in St. Ansgar where she lived until about six weeks ago. On June 19 she went to Rochester for a medical examination and on June 24th submitted to a gall bladder operation when it was discovered that there was a cancerous condition for which there was no cure. She remained at the hospital until July 1, at which time she was taken by ambulance to the home of her son, at Northwood where she remained under a nurse's care until the time of her death, July 26, 1939.

Mrs. Ellingson was a kind and devoted mother, always forgetting about herself and thinking of the welfare of others. She was devoted to her religion, and even though she knew death was near, she had no fear of its coming, but looked forward to going "Home" to be reunited in soul and spirit with her husband for whom she had grieved greatly.

Mrs. Ellingson is survived by her seven children; Glenn, Lorry, Leland and Benford of Carpenter; Mrs. Grace Ooge of Minneapolis; Walter of Northwood and Victor of St. Ansgar. She also leaves three sisters and one brother; Blance, Helen, Clara and Henry Thorson of St. Ansgar, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
