Funeral Services for Leona Edna Seefeldt Dieterich, 82, who died Wednesday, August 18, were held Saturday, August 21 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Reverend Betke officiating.

Leona Edna Seefeldt Dieterich was born June 10, 1911, the daughter of Otto Seefeld and his wife, Anna, nee Duenow Seefeldt, in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith July 2, 1911 by the Reverend G. A. Bishcoff with Mrs. William Seefeldt, Laura Duenow and Edna Erdman as her sponsors. She confirmed her baptismal vows April 5, 1925 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rock Township, having been instructed by Reverend J. Gemaehlich. She became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1932 and has served the church in many ways over the past years.

Mrs. Dieterich was a graduate of the Osage High School and taught country school before her marriage.

She married Arthur L. Dieterich June 10, 1931 at St. John's with Reverend C. Kumpf officiating. This union was blessed with three children, a daughter, Janice, a son Kermit, and a son who died in infancy. She lived in St. Ansgar for 62 years.

Leona was an active wife and mother and served in various ways on community organizations and circle activities. She enjoyed her home, her flower garden, travel, her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Dieterich was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur, an infant son, and a son-in-law, Robert Anderson.

She is survived by her daughter Janice and her children, Randall and Jennifer of Batavia, Illinois; by her son, Kermit and daughter-in-law Darlene and their children, Kathryn and Matthew of West Burlington; by her sisters: Wilma Frank of St. Ansgar, Ardell Strain of Grosse Ile, Michigan, and Irene Secrest of Niwot, Colorado.

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Car-truck crash
kills resident
of St. Ansgar

A St. Ansgar woman was killed in a car-truck accident in Washington County, south of Iowa City on Highway 218 Wednesday, August 18.

Leona Dieterich, 82, died when the car she was riding in crossed the center line and struck a truck driven by Harold Pollmeier. The car then struck a semi-trailer truck driven by Darrell Zegers.

The driver of the car, Darlene Dieterich, 40, of West Burlington and two passengers, Matthew, 10 and Kathy Dieterich, 22, also of West Burlington, were taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City.
