Funeral Held for Mrs. Darrell Maxson

Funeral services were held Monday at Spirit Lake for a former resident of Mitchell and Osage. Mrs. Darrell Maxson, 50, who died Friday after several months of illness from a malignancy. (Oct 8, 1965)

Verna Anna Ahrens was born near Osage Feb. 25, 1915, the daughter of William and Margaret Dieterichs Ahrens. She lived in Mitchell county until after her marriage to Darrell Maxson Aug. 17, 1935. Her husband taught school in Mitchell and Greene before going to Spirit Lake several years ago.

Survivors include her husband Darrell, one daughter, Barbara, Mrs. Don Jensen and three grandchildren of Spirit Lake; one son, Barry of Spencer, her mother, Mrs. Margaret Ahrens, two brothers, William and Louis of Osage; three sisters, Cordelia, Osage; Lucille, Mrs. Roger Wilson of Dayton Ohio; and Marie, Mrs. Ezra Kruckenberg of Lowden.

Preceding her in death were her father and one daughter, Marjorie who died in early childhood, and two brothers, Alvin and Elmer.

MRS. MAXSON, 50, DIES; FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY

Mrs. Darrell Maxson, 50, a resident of Spirit Lake since 1939, was interred in Lakeview Cemetery Monday following funeral services in the Immanuel Lutheran church.

Mrs. Maxson died at 8:30 a.m. October 8 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital following a seven months illness.

The Rev. M. J. Ansorge officiated at the service. Pallbearers were R. C. Mathews, Howard Belden, Joe Lieb, Goodwin Thorson, Wilbur Hanson of Spirit Lake and Wayne Hopkins of Webb.

Mrs. Maxson was born Verna Anne Ahrens on February 25, 1915, at Mitchell county, the daughter of William and Margaret Ahrens. She was married August 17, 1935 at Osage to Darrell Maxson. They resided at Mitchell from 1935-36, at Greene from 1936-39 and in Spirit Lake since 1939. They operated the Maxson cafe in Spirit Lake from 1954-1963. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church and was president of the Lutheran ladies circles.

Mrs. Maxson is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Donald F (Barbara) Jensen of Spirit Lake; one son, Barry, Spencer; her mother, of Osage; three grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Cordelia Ahrens of Osage, Mrs. Roger Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Ezra Kruckenbert of Lowden; two brothers, William and Louis Ahrens of Osage.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Jean, in infancy.
