Andrew Severson Laid to Rest, May 9
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at Deer Creek Lutheran Church for Andrew Severson, 80, Carpenter. The Reverend O. A. Langehough conducted the services.
Andrew Severson, son of Ole and Guri Severson, was born September 16, 1870 near St. Ansgar, Iowa.
He was baptized by the Reverend C. L. Clausen October 23, 1870 and was confirmed in the first confirmation class of Deer Creek Lutheran Church by the Reverend Johan Olson on July 25, 1886, Mr. Severson has been a resident of Barton Township until fourteen years ago when he moved to Carpenter and he was a life long member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church.
On June 27, 1895 he was united in marriage to Julia Ellingson by the Reverend Sigurd Olson.
He is survived by his wife and four children; Mrs. Bella Houghtaling of Mitchell; Mrs. Laura McGillivray and Orvie Severson of Carpenter and Mrs. Alice Boston of Waterloo; also one brother, two sisters, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
His death marks the passing of another of the early pioneer farmers of this community.
Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery here.

Carpenter, Iowa — Funeral rites were 2 p. m. Wednesday, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, west of Carpenter, for Andrew Severson, 80, who died Sunday, at Mason City, Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery.
Born Sept. 16, 1870, to Ole and Guri Golberg Severson near St. Ansgar.
In 1895 married Julia Elingson and couple lived on the home farm near Carpenter, until 1937 when moved into Carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Houghtaling, Mitchell, Mrs. Laura McGillivray, Carpenter, and Mrs. B. C. Boston, Waterloo, a brother, Sam Severson, Carpenter, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Hanson and Mrs. Will Kuntz, both Northwood.
There are seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
