Funeral services were held Thursday, November 19, 1992 at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar for Marie Elida Hofland Clausen, 86, St. Ansgar. Reverend Robert Porisch officiated and burial was in St. Ansgar Cemetery. She died November 16, 1992 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.
She was born February 10, 1910 to Edward and Mabel (Peterson) Hofland in Lyle, Minnesota and was baptized in the Lutheran faith. A few years later, her family homesteaded west of Buffalo, South Dakota in Harding County. She attended grade school at Brush Butte, South Dakota. She was confirmed August 3, 1924 at the Alma Norwegian Lutheran Church in Bullock, South Dakota and graduated from high school at Reeder, North Dakota where she also helped her family operate a hotel and cafe. A short time later, she came back to Lyle, Minnesota to live with her uncle and help care for her grandmother.
She married Elmer K. Clausen on June 10, 1935 at her parents home in Reeder, North Dakota by Rev. Ullonsong. After their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Stacyville, until moving to St. Ansgar in 1970.
Mrs. Clausen was a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir, and was very active in women's organizations in the church and was a member of First Lutheran in St. Ansgar.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer of St Ansgar; two sons, Ronald and wife, Audrey Clausen of Rochester, MN; Rodney of Kasson, MN; three daughters, Myrna and husband, Eugene Heskett of Hayward, CA; Shirley and husband, Norman Kittleson of St. Ansgar; Ann and husband, Dean Boynton of Lindenhurst, IL; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
