Funeral services for Irwin J. Culbertson, 91, who died Wednesday, October 29, 1986, were held Saturday, November 1 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar with the Rev. E.C. Franke officiating.

Mr. Culbertson was born on a farm near Carpenter January 27, 1895 to Frank and Carrie (Thon) Culbertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran church and never severed his membership from the church.

In 1918, he entered the Military Service during World War I. While at Camp Dodge he was stricken with the flu and never fully recovered. He was later assigned to Base Hospital in Camp Shelby, Miss. from which he was discharged. In 1919, he returned to farming, but being plagued with ill health, abondoned the venture. In 1936, he was admitted to the Veterans Hospital, Knoxville, where he was a patient until his death.

Mr. Culbertson was a charter member of the American Legion Post of Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by two brothers, Floyd of Waverly and Noris of Northwood; one sister, Mayme Parrott of Bradenton, Fla. and three nephews and nieces.

Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery in St. Ansgar.
