Pauline Edith Thompson was born at Plainfield, Iowa, on March 16, 1917, to Eugene Ellsworth Thompson and Lucille Holmes Thompson. She was baptized into the Christian faith on December 8, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church and was also confirmed then. In 1919, the family moved to a farm northeast of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She attended Spring Valley rural school, graduating from St. Ansgar High School in 1934. Pauline then graduated from St. Anns Business College in LeSueur, Minn.
She was united in marriage to Alvin George Kroneman on April 14, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church, bringing her to the life she loved of farming. As a youngster, Pauline followed in her father's footsteps learning to love the great outdoors and love of animals and nature. This love of land was passed on to their only son, Allan Dean Kroneman.
Alvin and Pauline farmed in Rock Township for nearly 40 years with special interest in cattle. She served the county as 4-H Leader of the "Core Girls" for 15 years. Showing cattle at State Fair was a highlight for many years.
Upon retirement in 1976, they built a home in St. Ansgar. Pauline took great pride in her retirement years in maintaining well groomed flower beds and landscaping at her home and around town. She was a member of the Garden Club, Womens Club, served on the days of elections and served as a member of the Osage Faith Home Board.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin, of St. Ansgar; one child, Allan and his wife, Joann; and one granddaughter, Jennie Jo Kroneman, all of rural Clear Lake; one sister, Mrs. John (Frances) Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
