Funeral services for William Carl Bowers, Jr., 61, lifelong resident of St. Ansgar, who died Friday, June 6, 1986 at his home here, were held Tuesday, June 10 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home here with the Rev. Thomas Hughes of First Lutheran church, officiating.

Mr. Bowers was born February 8, 1925, son of William Carl and Ina (Knutson) Bowers. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and became a member of the First Lutheran church, attended St. Ansgar schools and graduated from St. Ansgar high school in 1943.

With his country at war, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and then enlisted into the Air Force, where he served for five months when he was medically discharged.

Mr. Bowers was employed by the city of St. Ansgar for five years and the Oliver Corporation for less than one year. He had the opportunity of going into business for himself and in 1951 purchased the billiard parlor which he operated until 1981 when failing health forced him to retire.

He is survived by one brother, Bruce; one niece and two nephews, all of Fairfield, Calif.; cousins; and a host of friends.

Mr. Bowers was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, and burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Mr. Bowers was born on February 8, 1925 in St. Ansgar, to W. C. and Ina (Knudtson) Bowers.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He owned and operated the local pool hall in St. Ansgar for more than 30 years.

Survivors include a brother, Gaylon (Bruce) Bowers of Fairfield, California.
