Word reached Lyle relatives of the death of a former resident, Jewett M. Hofland, 87, of Kalispel, Mont. who died Sunday, September 17 at the Kalispel hospital.
Funeral serives were held there Thursday September 21 at First Lutheran Church and burial was in the church cemetery.
Jewett M. Hofland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Iver Hofland, was born in Mitchell county near Mona October 23, 1890.
Later he moved to Hope, N.D. and in 1913 he homesteaded in Vida, Mont. area.
In 1915 he married Josephine Mabel Jacobson in Austin, Minn. and in 1933 they moved to Circle, Mont. where he was employed as AAA secretary and returned to the Homestead in 1940.
Hofland was Montana State Senator from McCane county from 1944 to 1960 and a board member for several McCane county co-ops. His wife, Josephine died in 1966 and in June 1967 he married Celia Edgar in Circle, Mont. and they moved to Kalispel in 1971.
Survivors are his wife, Celia; two sons, Elmer of Circle, Mont. and Everett of Wolf Point, Mont.; one daughter, Mrs. Marie Gilbertson of Circle, Mont.; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Ibert Hofland of Lyle; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Lila) Enerson of Rose Creek, Minn. and Mrs. Millie Groth of Enderlin, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Herman(Nettie) Nelson; Verna Hofland and Mrs. Victor (Edna) Volstad; a brother, Elmer Hofland and several nieces and nephews.
