MRS. GEORGE PATTENGILL OF OSAGE DIES
Pioneer Resident Member of Family of Educators; 2 Sisters Survive.
OSAGE, IOWA -- Oct. 6, 1934 - Mrs. George D. Pattengill, 83, pioneer resident of Mitchell county and member of a prominent family of educators, died at 2:30 o'clock Saturday morning from heart disease.
Born Martha Brown in Vermont, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Brown of Osage, she lived in Spartan, Wis., before coming to Mitchell, where she was married to George D. Pattengill in 1873.
Her husband, a teacher in the Cedar Valley Seminary and later Mitchell county superintendent of schools, died in 1907.
Her only son, Prof. Ernest A. Pattengill, mathematics instructor at Iowa State College, Ames died five years ago.Mrs. Pattengill retained her scholarly tastes until her death and was a student of astronomy.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Herbert M. Gregory of Osage and Mrs. Charles Sheffer of Chicago, and a granddaughter, Louise Pattengill, student at Iowa State college.
Funeral services will probably be Monday.
