Former Osage Teacher Dies

OSAGE, IOWA -- Mrs. Jennie Murphy, 80, a native of Osage, died at a hospital in Long Beach, California, with funeral services to be held at a funeral home there Saturday.

Mrs. Murphy and her late husband, John Murphy, operated a greenhouse at Independence until her husband died, and in 1911 she and her infant son returned to Osage.

Well known here as a school teacher in the early days, she holds the distinction of having taught three generations in Osage.

Survivors include her son, two grandchildren, four sisters and one brother.
