Anna Christine Kneisel was born on August 29, 1839 in Hessen, Germany. There she received the rites of holy baptism. In the year 1850 she immigrated with her mother into the United States, first settling in the state of Ohio. Three years later she moved with her parents to Mitchell county, Iowa.
In the year 1859 she was united in holy wedlock with Mr. Herman Dieterichs. This union was blessed with eleven children, six sons and five daughters. Three daughters and one son preceded her in death. she was united in wedlock with her husband for more than 65 years. Their marriage was a happy one.
She was one of the founders of St. John's congregation and was ever ready to respond in the interest of its progress, also the progress of the kingdom of God at large. She was a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, and a congenial friend. She was a disciple of the Lord from her baptism until her departure.
A few weeks ago sickness overtook her and she knew that the Lord would take her to him. She departed this life last Monday, December 24, 1923, at 9:15 a.m., and had attained the goodly age of 85 years, 3 months and 26 days.
Her death is mourned by her deeply grieved and bowed husband, Mr. Herman Dieterichs, five sons, and two daughters, namely Fred Dieterichs, of Rudd, Iowa; Mrs. Albert Wilks of Rudd; Henry and Carl of St. Ansgar; William and Herman of Osage; and Mrs. William Ahrens of Mitchell, and also 35 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her memory will at all times be blessed in our midst.
Interment was made at St. John's [Calvary] cemetery from the house and St. John's Lutheran church on Wednesday, December 26, at 1:00 p.m., Rev. Theodore Frese officiating.
