Carl Frederick Paul Ruehlow was born March 3, 1847 at Pflugrade, Province of Pommerania, Germany. At this place he was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. December 4, 1868 he was united in marriage with Emilie Vedder. This union was blessed with three sons and six daughters; of these one son and one daughter preceded their father in death.
In 1871 Mr. Ruehlow came to this county, settling down at Watertown, Wisconsin. He came to Mitchell county in 1878, living on a farm near Toeterville till he came to make his home in St. Ansgar in 1909.
Mr. Ruehlow suffered a stroke last Friday night and was found dead in bed by his wife who had risen a little earlier to prepare breakfast for him.
He attained the age of 80 years, 7 months and 19 days. He is survived by his aged widow, two sisters (one in Germany), two sons, Paul of Osage and Leonard of Lyle, Minnesota, five daughters: Mrs. William Callies of Waterloo, Mrs. Frank Borchardt of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Isaac Mull of Osage, Mrs. Geo. Belz of Carpenter, and Mrs. Wm. Decklever of Osage, 31 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two children have preceded him in death, Charles and Mrs. Carl Hartwig.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church and interment was at Toeterville. Rev. Brammer officiating, based his sermon on Psalm 4,9.
