Lester Selvig, age 93, of Osage, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be at the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit funeral home and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Lester was born September 7, 1915, on a farm in Marshall County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Borghild (Haugen) Selvig.
He married Elnora Meling on January 31, 1938, in Marshalltown. They farmed in Marshall County and moved to Osage in 1954. They farmed near Osage, retiring in 1977. Lester was a member of Sons of Norway and Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School. He enjoyed fishing, attending farm sales, playing cards and his coffee group at Stang's Hardware. He also enjoyed his trip to Norway.
Lester is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Wayne) Smolik of Osage, Eileen (Ewald) Ehlke, Jr. of St. Ansgar, Dawn (James) Lackore of Osage; one son, Robert (Mary Ann) Selvig of Osage; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Usken of Colo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elnora Selvig in 1991; a brother, Carl Milo Selvig; and two sisters, Thelma Anderson and Bernice Dickkut.
