Josiah Weldin was born in Wilsborough, Essex Co. New York, on April 22, 1827, and died at his home in East Mitchell Nov. 26, 1913, at the age of 86 years 7 months and 4 days.

He came with his parents to Sun Prairie Wisconsin, in the year 1847. He crossed the plains with others enroute to California with ox teams in the year 1852, being five months and five days on the road. After his return he was married to Harriett A. Bridges and they lived together until her death. One child was born to this union, Mrs. Harriett A. Paine of Kanawha, Iowa.

In the year 1862 Mr. Weldon was married to Nancy M. Chipman. Three children were born to this union. Besides the widow two children survive, Mrs. Kate Grover of Osage and Eugene Weldin of Platte, S.D. Also a brother and sister are living, Benjamin Weldin of Mitchell and Almira Haines of Seattle, Wash.

Mr. Weldin was a very energetic man, strickly honest in his business dealings, and was honored by all who knew him. During his life he had been a Christian man, and those who were with him during his last sickness were convinced that when the end came he was at peace with his Creator.

The funeral was held from the house Friday at 2 p.m. and burial was at the Mitchell cemetery. Rev. L.O. Thompson of the Methodist church conducted the funeral.
