AUSTIN, MINN -- David Earl Johnson, age 54, of rural Mona, Iowa, died unexpectedly at his home.

He was born on July 13, 1951, to LeRoy and Evelyn (Eggestein) Johnson in Austin, Minn. After graduation from St. Ansgar High School, David served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war.

He married Patricia Reimers on April 27, 1975, in Hutchinson, Minn. He worked for Clements and Sears in Rochester before moving to Show Low, Arizona, and later moved back to Iowa, making his home near Mona. He enjoyed outdoor fires while fishing, hunting and camping. He also liked to spend time with his family, especially his granddaughter.

Survivors include his sons: Jonathan Johnson, of Littleton, Colorado; Mark Johnson, of Rochester, Minnesota; one grandchild, Erica Johnson; sisters: Lillian Jahr, of Toeterville, Iowa; Marlys Follmoth, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Darlene Maine, of Fresno, Calif.; Grace (Herman) Peterson, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Linda Garvey, of Byron, Minnesota; Monica (Myron) Hemann, of McIntire, Iowa; brothers: Robert (Patti) Johnson, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; and Wayne (Neilene) Johnson, of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and LeRoy Johnson; his wife, Patricia Johnson; sister, Vivian; brother, Lynn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at Mona Lutheran Church with The Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment is at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa, with military honors by St. Ansgar American Legion.
