Donald Ziegler, age 80, of Lyle, Mower County, Minnesota, died at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea on February 27, 2008.

Donald Dean Ziegler was born Jan. 18, 1928 in Austin and attended Union One School, rural Stacyville, Iowa.

He married Dona Johannsen on Nov. 6, 1948 at the bride’s home in Lyle. A farmer for over 40 years and an employee of Owatonna Manufacturing Company (OMC), Don retired in 1982. Don and Dona were the guiding influence for restoration of the Union Presbyterian Church and Cemetery in rural Stacyville, where six generations of his family attended and are buried. The church was closed for 25 years and needed major repairs. Don also enjoyed attending antique power shows and was involved in farm organizations. He loved Oliver tractors, tractor pulls and tractor shows.

Survivors include his wife, Dona, Lyle; three sons, Darwin (Kathy), Hollandale, Randy (Marian), Hayward, Gary (Cindy), Lyle; six grandchildren, Trenton, Mary, Cory, Colleen, Megan and Sarah; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Snowbeck, stepfather, George Snowbeck; and a daughter, Gail, at birth.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin with Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m., Saturday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, rural Stacyville in the spring.

The family prefers memorials to Union Presbyterian Church Restoration or to donor’s choice.
