Loren Wilfred Murphy, 82, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, died on February 28, 2008 at Mitchell County Regional Medical Center, Osage, Iowa.

Loren was born on November 15, 1925 in Austin, Minnesota, to Wilfred and Clista (Hoban) Murphy.

He attended the Red Star elementary school and Lyle Public Schools. He was married to Marcella M. King on October 17, 1945 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. They farmed in the Lyle area. Following Marcella’s death in 1999, Loren moved to Austin where he resided at the St. Mark’s Apartments and later moved to the Rose Haven Apartments in Rose Creek. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek.

Loren had many interests including attending the fiddler’s concerts at Hayfield, gardening, driving and taking neighbors for rides. He could often be found whistling a tune.

Loren is survived by his children, Thomas Murphy, Austin, David (Wendy) Murphy, Adams, Minn., Dean (Carol) Murphy, Rose Creek, Minn.; Mary Murphy, Zimmerman, Minn.; Chris (Michelle) Murphy, Waseca, Minn.; Julie (Gary) Frein, Grand Meadow, Minn.; grandchildren: William, Michael, Jessica , Joseph, Callie, Stacy, Jamie, Jeff, John, Debra, Penny, Patrick, Bryan, Katie, Paul and Becky; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Riley, Patrick, Tanner, Logan, Ian, Alana, Ethan, Preston, Meridith, Lauren, Jazmin, Carter and Addison; brother, William Murphy, Lyle, Minn.; sister, Loretta Lenton, Maple Grove, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Marrald King, Charles City, Iowa, Melvin King, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Madonna Murphy.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Ruben Spinler officiating. Interment was in the Woodbury Cemetery near Lyle, Minnesota. Visitation was held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at St. Peters Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.
