STACYVILLE, IOWA-- Irma C. May, 90, of Stacyville, died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Stacyville. Funeral service were held Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, Iowa, with Rev, John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Irma Smith was born July 8, 1917, on the family farm near Johnsburg, Minnesota to Henry and Theresia (Gerber) Smith. She was the 5th of eight children. She attended St. John's grade school in Johnsburg.

She was united in marriage to Edmund May on October 8, 1940. She and her husband farmed near Meyer, Iowa from 1941-1975.

Irma loved farm work and gardening and was known for her cooking and baking skills. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her generous heart touched many lives. She was active in Sacred Heart Parish, Meyer and Visitation Parish, Stacyville, and belonged to the Rosary Society and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edmund; a daughter, Mary; great-grandson Matthew Shanks; one brother Alfred Smith; and four sisters Leona Heimer, Marie Jax, Amelia O'Sullivan and Mildred Blake.

She is survived by two daughters, Sr. Janet May, OSF, Sioux City, IA and Audrey (Ralph) Wolf, Mason City, IA; two sons Duane (Helen) May and Harry (Susan) May of Stacyville, IA. Ten grandchildren Russ (Arlys) May, Susan Shanks Ricketts, Nancy (Roger) Woods, Sandra May, Matthew Wolf, Sarah Wolf, Cassie (Troy) Hanna, Hillary May, Gabe May and Skyler May. Nine great-grand children, Benjamin Shanks, Tristan Shanks, Jarrett Woods, Jaci Woods, Jaden May, Megan Hinders, Kyle Hinders, Harrison Hanna and Maverick Hanna. Two sisters Dorothy (Fritz) May and Ardella Krebsbach, and in-laws Evelyn Brumm, Regina May, Tony May and Joe Martyniak, and many nieces and nephews.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
