John J. Faas, age 78, of Stacyville, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Emergency Room in Osage. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Burial will be in the Visitation Catholic Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Stacyville American Legion Post 569.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.
John was born October 13, 1929, near Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Benedict and Mabel (Winer) Faas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On November 16, 1954, John married Monica Rogers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived in Osage until 1969, when they moved to an acreage near Stacyville. John worked at White Farm for 39 years and then worked at Theobald Custom Manufacturing in Stacyville. He was the sexton of the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville. John was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Stacyville American Legion, where he had served as Post Commander and was Post Adjutant for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas Faas;
two brothers, Bobby and Marvin Faas; and a sister, Irene Neis.
John is survived by his wife, Monica Faas of Stacyville; his children, David (Cathy) Faas of Racine, Minnesota, Diane (Mark) Beckman of New Hampton, Daniel (Kathy) Faas in the Military Service, Denise (Bruce) Mayer of Stacyville, Donald Faas of San Francisco, California, Debra (Warren) Davis of Fort Dodge, Darrell Faas of Owatonna, Minnesota, Doreen (Rodney) Bries of Monona; a daughter-in-law, Julie Faas of Osage; 21 grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Sylvan (Virginia) Faas of Mona; two sisters, Margaret Huemann of Stacyville, Marlene (Darwin) Mauer of Denver, Iowa.
