Funeral Held For E. E. Thompson, 85
Funeral services for Eugene E. Thompson, 85, were held Friday afternoon at the St. Ansgar Methodist church. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer, church pastor, was in charge and burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery.
Mr. Thompson, retired farmer of the St. Ansgar vicinity, died Wednesday at a retirement home in Northwood.
Eugene Ellsworth Thompson was born March 4, 1880, in Chickasaw county, near Nashua, Iowa, the son of Robert K. and Jennie Fizgerald Thompson. When he was a few months old his parents moved to a farm near Rockford, Illinois, which is now part of Camp Grant. When he was about five years old his family returned to Bremer county. As one of eight children, Eugene grew to manhood in that area attending school in Plainfield.
In 1901 he was united in marriage to Lucile Holmes at Plainfield. They farmed near Plainfield for a number of years. He was later the proprietor of a grocery store in that community for five years. The family moved to a farm east of St. Ansgar in 1919, where he remained until his retirement.
Mrs. Thompson died in September, 1943. In 1948 he was married to Mrs. Mina Hirleman. They lived in Battle Creek, Mich. for a year, after which they returned to St. Ansgar to make their home.
In November, 1964, Mr. Thompson entered the retirement home in Northwood. He was a member of the St. Ansgar Methodist church.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Lucile, his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Surviving him are his wife, Mina; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Pauline Edith) Kroneman , of Mitchell; and Mrs. John Patterson, Frances J., of St. Ansgar; three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Wilder of Waterloo and Mrs. Holm C. Hussner of Appleton, Wis., one brother, Harvey Thompson of Austin and several nieces and nephews.
