ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Funeral Services are being held here today, Thursday, September 29 for Fred Kruse, age 77, who died at the Stacyville Nursing Home, Stacyville, Iowa, Monday morning September 26, 1983.

The service will be at the St. Ansgar Catholic church with Father John Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Newburg Cemetery at Carpenter, Iowa.

Fred Kruse was born April 2, 1906 in Webster county, Iowa to Fred and Minnie Kruse, the third oldest in a family of three sons and four daughters.

On October 31, 1933, he married Esther Hulshizer and they farmed in Worth County until 1934, when they moved to Carpenter where he owned and operated his own garage until 1942.

In 1942 the Kruses moved to St. Ansgar where he worked as a mechanic for 31 years. In 1940 they joined the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Osage, Iowa, and later joined the St. Ansgar Catholic church where he was an active member until his health failed.

After his retirement in 1978, he enjoyed working in his yard and garden, and was an avid reader.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Charles.

Survivors are his wife, Esther of St. Ansgar; one son, Dennis of St. Ansgar; one daughter, Mrs. DOnald (Kathryn) Powers of West Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters: Lena Jennings of Hanlontown, Iowa; Minnie Hendrickson of Northwood, Iowa; Louise Stehn of Northwood; Bertha Dishon of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.
