Funeral services for Mrs. Lydia Koethke, 83, who died in Rochester, Minnesota, September 10, were held Sept. 13 at St. Peter Lutheran church, Toeterville, Iowa, with Rev. Charles Bunk officiating.
Lydia Laura (Schroeder) Koethke was born October 17, 1899. She spent her childhood and teenage years on the family farm just north of where the Duenow quarry is now located. She attended Spring Valley rural school and St. Ansgar high school. She was confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran church in Toeterville on April 5, 1914.
She married Elmer Koethke June 23, 1921, and they made their home on the family farm northeast of Toeterville. Three children were born to them. Mrs. Koethke remained an active participant of St. Peter Lutheran church and the ALCW, but most of her energies were devoted to her family and her farm. She continued to live with her son Allen, on the farm after her husband and her son, Glenn, died. She had been a resident of the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center the past three years.
Mrs. Koethke was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; five brothers ans sisters: Esther, Mate, Herman, Lorenz and Clarence; her parents; her son, Glenn; and her daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Viola) Holstadt.
She is survived by her son, Allen, of rural St. Ansgar, Iowa; her sister, Mrs. Mabel Brandt, of rural St. Ansgar; two daughters, Vicki Suhl of Sutton, Massachusetts and Mancy Holstad of Mason City, Iowa; two great-grandchildren and three nieces.
Burial was in St. Peter cemetery, Toeterville, with Rev. Bunk in charge of the committal services.
