Former Resident Dies in Washington, D. C. – Word has been received here of the sudden death of J. O. (Ollie) Gilchrist, 49, at his home in Washington D. C., Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in a Washington, D. C. cemetery.

Mr. Gilchrist was born near Ryan, Iowa, on May 5, 1898, and attended the local schools. He was married to Ethel McGhan, school instructor at Parkersburg. Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilchrist attended a Chicago Beauty school. They operated a beauty shop at Parkersburg and then Mason City, coming to Osage about 1920.

Mr. Gilchrist was employed in a barber shop for some time, then purchased a beauty shop. They sold this to Alvin and Ruth Gilbrecht in 1926. The couple spent a few more years in Osage, then went to Charles City, Iowa City, and finally to Washington, D. C. Mr. Gilchrist, at the time of his death, was a salesman for the Beauty Supply company and his wife managed one of their shops.

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Phyllis and Mrs. Marlynn Hathaway, both of Washington, D. C., and a grandson, Lonnie Hathaway. His parents at Marshalltown and his brothers and sisters also survive.
