Funeral Held
Monday, August 11, 1980

Funeral Services for Hugh M. Carr, 97, longtime resident of St. Ansgar, who died at the Community Home in Fairfax, Minn. Friday, August 8, were held Monday, August 11 at a funeral home in Albert Lea, Minn.

Hugh Maurice Carr was born October 16, 1882 in Peotone, Illinois, the son of James Bell Carr and Caroline (Goodspeed) Carr. The family moved to Iowa where Mr. Carr was graduated from Algona high school. He attended Cornell College at Mount Vernon and Iowa State University, Ames.

He worked as a civil engineer in Kossuth county and Humboldt, and then farmed near Ellendale, Minn. After living many years in Austin, Minn. he retired in St. Ansgar where he wa a clerk in the West Bros. Clothing store here for many years. He was also active in the United Methodist Church here, and was a longtime member of the St. Ansgar Lions Club.

June 20, 1907 he married Pearl Sutton who died in 1952. On September 1, 1954 he married Mae Lund who died in 1972.

Mr. Carr is survived by his five children: Mrs. Carl (Kathryn) Wilstermann of Fairfax, Minn.; Dale of Albert Lea, Minn.; John of Des Moines; Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Williams of Melbourne, Florida; Patricia Martin of San Diego, Calif.; also 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Carr had been a resident of the Fairfax Community Home for the past two years. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Albert Lea.
