Milton Richards: The death angel again visited Glenwood vicinity and claimed the spirit of a highly respected and long time resident, Milton Richards, who passed to his reward Wednesday evening, April 4, at the home of his daughter Mrs. W. E. McCoy just east of Glenwood. Mr. Richards had been in failing health for a number of years, his condition only becoming critical near the last. He was ever a quiet, unassuming man who numbered his friends by his acquaintances. For many years prior to the death of his wife he was a resident of Glenwood and was ever considered one of the most staunch and loyal of our citizens.

Funeral services were held from the daughter's home Saturday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J.F. Stille, pastor of the West Oak Baptist church.

Interment in the Glenwood cemetery.

The following life history was read by the pastor at the services:

Milton Richards, son of Newton and Juila Richards, was born December 22, 1853 at Henderson, Iowa and died at the home of his daughter after many years of poor health, on April 4, 1923, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 13 days. On March 30, 1874 he was united in marriage with Carrie Stillwell Walling who preceded him in death on December 28, 1913. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Celia Cheyney, whose death occurred in January 1919, Mrs. W.E. McCoy of Glenwood, and Thorne E. Richards of Sterling, Colorado. His son came to spend the last moments with the father but because of his own illness was forced to return him at once.

Shortly after his marriage he moved to Glenwood and has made this his home for 49 years and spent his entire life in Mills county.

He was employed in the monument works of Swinerton & Company, in an early day, following the line down as the ownership changed, having filled this position under four different firms.

Because of failing health he was compelled to seek other occupation.

After the death of his wife he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Cheyney, and after her death continued to live with her family.

He leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, one son and 13 grandchildren; one sister May Johnson of Lancaster, Minnesota, and two half sisters, Mrs. Essie Smith of Macedonia and Mrs. Nora Sheetz of Red Oak. A number of years ago he was converted and united with the Saints church and died with a hope in the Great Resurrection.
