Elizabeth Edmondson, Henderson

Elizabeth Georgine Edmondson, 90, died at her home in Henderson on Dec. 15, 2005. Funeral services were held Dec. 20, 2005, at Henderson Christian Church. Pastor Derek Watt officiated. Interment was at the Farm Creek Cemetery in Henderson.

She was born the daughter of George McMorris Sutton and Mable Claire (Hadley) Sutton, on March 1, 1915 in Henderson. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1932 and was a lifelong resident of Henderson and the Henderson Christian Church.

Elizabeth and August D. Duysen were married at Rock Port, Mo. in 1932, and farmed near Henderson with his father, Nis Duysen. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Gerald, Stanley, Murray (Nick), Douglas, Shirley, Carroll, and Donald. Shirley died at nearly four years of age. In 1951, Mrs. Edmondson began working at the Union Carbide battery factory in Red Oak, and later in the year divorced August.

She married Dean Edmondson of Henderson in 1952, and they lived on his farm east of Henderson. In 1964, she became Postmaster of Henderson. The couple retired from the farm and moved into her present home. She later resigned from the post office to begin a 17-year career as bookkeeper and secretary for Slump and Steiner in Henderson, retiring when the business was sold.

Some of her enjoyments included playing the piano and organ, country music, traveling, and in her younger days, she enjoyed card parties. She was very interested in politics and was an avid reader of current events, newspapers and magazines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean; daughter Shirley; brother George Beverly Sutton; step-brothers Chancey Eggers and Merlin Eggers. She is survived by her sons, Gerald Duysen and wife Abbie of Omaha; Stanley Duysen and wife Shirley of Rio Vista, Calif.; Murray Duysen and wife Roberta of Fargo, N.D.; Douglas Duysen and wife Bev of Noblesville, Ind.; Carroll Duysen and wife Bev of Emerson; and Donald Duysen and wife Lana of Glenwood; 21 grandchildren 45 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Hertz Funeral Home of Carson was in charge of arrangements.
