Herman Stortenbecker, Silver City

Herman F. Stortenbecker, 87, of Silver City, died Nov. 22, 2005, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were held Nov. 26, 2005, at Silver City United Methodist Church. Pastor Mike Stevens officiated. Burial was at the Silver City Cemetery.

He was born on May 1, 1918, in Pottawattamie County to George and Mary (Voss) Stortenbecker. He graduated from Treynor High School and began his farming career and livestock operation at an early age. He had a great love of the land and enjoyed every minute of his lifelong career.
He was married to Sarah Jane Hill on Nov. 26, 1941, in Grant City, Mo. The couple had two sons; Larry and Leo. Mr. Stortenbecker was known for being a conscientious operator and his properties were easily recognized for being meticulously maintained. The family continues the farming operation that he and his wife established. It seems fitting that he has passed away following a successful harvest and will be laid to rest on the anniversary date of his marriage.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Jane in 1993; sisters, Dorothy Stortenbecker, Anna Schnoor; and infant brother. He is survived by his sons, Larry Stortenbecker of Malvern; Leo and wife Linda Stortenbecker of Silver City; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nephew Bernard and wife Donna Schnoor of Silver City; and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to Hospice With Heart, Silver City United Methodist Church, or Silver City Ambulance Fund, Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
