Alice L. Dunsdon, 75, Tabor

Alice L. Dunsdon, 75, of Tabor, died at Tabor Manor Care Center following an extended illness on Aug. 7, 2005. Services were held Aug. 11 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor.

Interment was at the Tabor Cemetery. Rev. Lauris Meek officiated.

Mrs. Dunsdon was born Nov. 3, 1929 near Tabor to Everett and Ina G. (Whitney) Wolkins. She was united in marriage to Donald J. Dunsdon in Tabor on July 27, 1952. She loved quilting and won many national awards and honors in several national and international quilting shows. Her works have been displayed worldwide and hang in boardrooms, universities, the Iowa State

Historical building in Des Moines and the Mills County Historical Museum in Glenwood. She made over 150 quilts most being original designs. She designed the Mills County flag, which hangs at the Iowa State Fairgrounds with 98 other Iowa County flags. She wrote, illustrated and edited a quilting book, Fantastic Fans, all while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. She was nearing the completion of her second book at the time of her death.

Mrs. Dunsdon was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson Grant Dunsdon. She is survived by her husband; son, Gary and his wife Barbara Dunsdon of Tabor; daughter, Rhonda and her husband Allen Follmer of Papillion; four brothers, Merrill Wolkins of Chesterfield, Mich., Donald Wolkins of Louisville, Neb., Bobby Wolkins of Pacific Junction and Stanley Wolkins of Woodbine; two sisters, Josephine Pierce of Beaver Lake, Neb. and Darlene Wilson of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters-in-law, Velma Dunsdon of Wyoming, Dola Newell of Camdenton, Mo., and Vivian Dyke of Tabor; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and host of nephews, nieces and many friends.
