The Malvern Leader
7 January 1890

Died

At Norfolk, Neb., Dec. 29, 1889, Mr. George H. Smith, aged 29 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Deceased was born in Muscatine, Iowa, Jan. 9, 1860, and while yet a boy at home with his parents he came to Mills County. He was married Jan. 4, 1885, to Miss Laura L. Wiatt. He was the only son of David F. and Elizabeth Smith. He left home about two weeks previous to his death for the purpose of making arrangements for moving his family to Nebraska; but ere this was consummated he was called upon to relinquish his fond grasp on all below and yield to the strong hand of death, which was sudden. He leaves parents and sisters to mourn their loss, but the sore bereavement falls heaviest upon the lone and sad wife who is left with two little boys, aged 2 and 4 years, who with mother will listen again and again for the coming of the absent one.

The funeral was attended by a large gathering of relatives and friends at the M. E. Church in Silver City, and then we laid his silent remains to rest in Silver City Cemetery, Jan. 1, 1890.

In behalf of the parents, wife and sisters, we thank the kind friends and neighbors for the friendship shown us in the time of our sorrow and bereavement in the laying to rest our son, husband and brother.

Though cast down we're not forsaken,
Though afflicted, not alone,
Thou didst give and thou hast taken,
Blessed Lord, Thy will be done.
