The Malvern Leader
10 April 1890

Wiatt-Mrs. Cynthia Ellen Wyatt was born in Virginia Feb. 3, 1821. She was married to W. G. Wyatt Sept. 3, 1837, to whom a family of twelve children were born, all of whom survive her except one. With her family she removed from Ohio to Holt County, Mo., in 1847, and in 1851 they removed to Iowa and settled on the farm in Mills County, about five miles north of Malvern, where she died Saturday morning, April 5, 1890. She united with the M. P. Church in the vicinity of her home at the time of its first organization and continued a faithful member until called fron earth.

Mother Wiatt was an example of Christian spirit and excellence while living, and she died exulting in the triumphs of the faith. For some days she had seemed too weak to talk distinctly and yet conscious when spoken to. A few hours before her death she called her children and husband to her side, one by one, and talked most earnestly to them, giving them counsel and encouragement, exhorting to righteousness of life. She then requested them to sing and desired some of them to pray. She also offered up an earnest prayer at their request, rejoicing in the exercise as was her custom in health. She then exclaimed, "Now I am ready to go. See the Angels are coming. Glory, haleluiah!" Thus died one of earth's best and most pure in spirit. She died as she had lived. Her body was buried in the cemetery at Liberty Church, on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1890. A large concourse of people attended her funeral.
