Ivan White Service In Baptist Church

High School Lad Who Died After a Long Illness Honored at Services This Thursday. Was Member of Freshman Class.

Many assembled at the funeral services in the First Baptist church here this Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to the memory of Ivan White, 15-year-old high school lad, who passed away at his home Monday night. Ivan had lost a leg in May, 1940 by amputation, and the townspeople, with whom he was very popular, and friends elsewhere clubbed together to buy him an artificial limb. A recurrence of sarcoma, in this case in the chest, was the cause of his death according to the attending physician.

Ivan was born in Lincoln, Neb., though his parents were reared in Glenwood and have lived here most of their lives. The family returned to Glenwood from Lincoln about ten years ago, and Ivan had attended the local school, being a freshman in high school at the time of his death. For the past two months, however, he has been bedfast.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Everett White, three brothers, Richard and Lawrence at home and George of the U.S. Navy, two sisters, Louise of Toledo, Iowa, and Betty at home, and a half-brother, Chester Morey of Omaha.

Rev. Charles Hilton was in charge of the services with music being furnished by a quartette consisting of Hayden Walker, Alma Eaton, Mary Schade and Ronald Hurst, accompanied at the piano by Miss Emily Anthony. The profusion of flowers were cared for by school friends, Ella Mae Honig, Jean Allen, Donna Filkins, Eleanor Powers, Betty Kemp, Salmo Crouch and Shirley Louvre.

Pallbearers were Dwayne Lefever, Keith Bishop, Max Steele, Billy Johnson, Robert Harless and Darrell Yates. Those acting as ushers at the church were Lynn Schade, DeWayne Andrews, Wayne Adams and Orville Hatcher. The members of the freshman class, of which Ivan was a member, attended the services in a body.

Burial was made in the Glenwood cemetery.
