Services Sunday For A.C. Murphy

Born in Kentucky 86 Years Ago Mr. Murphy Came With Family to Iowa in 1892. Was Gss Carpenter for 34 Years.

Funeral Services for A.C. Murphy, well known long time resident of this community were held in Raynors Chapel Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.S. Reel of the Glenwood Christian church. Music for the service was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Tom White, Betty Scott, Ruth Miller and Garreld Baker with Miss Elsie Evans at the piano. Ladies in charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Homer Kier, Mrs. Robert Pollitt, Mrs. Bert Colwell and Miss Alice Scott. Those acting as pallbearers were W.S. DeMoss, W.C. Marshall, Chris Wriedt, A.F. Standiford, J.H. Stivers and Paul Sulhoff.

The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Glenwood cemetery.

Albert Cornelius Murphy was born Sept. 9, 1854 near New Castle, Ky., where he grew to manhood. In 1876 at the age of 22 years, he went to Macomb, Ill., and in 1882 he was united in marriage to LeAnna Holdon of that city.

To this union five children were born, four girls and one boy, Mrs. Pearl Rhone of Washington state, Mrs. Jack Mulvaney of Independence, Geo. A. Murphy, Akron, O. Anise died in 1915 and May in 1939.

The family came to Glenwood in 1892 where they lived for five years, and then moved to Sidney where they resided 17 years. In 1914 they returned to Glenwood where they have since resided.

Mr. Murphy was a carpenter by trade and was foreman at the state school in this city from 1914 to 1936. He was an active member of the Christian church since a young man and was elder of the local church many years.

He had been in failing health for almost five years and departed this life Feb. 13, 1941, at the age of 86 years, five months and four days. His wife preceded him in death in 1924.

Besides his immediate family he leaves to mourn their loss one brother, Robert Murphy of Council Bluffs, a sister, Mrs. Lucy Costigan of Ames, other relatives and many friends.
