Services Held For Edward B. Birdsall
Had Been Resident of Emerson for More Than 50 Years

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church for Edward B. Birdsall, a long time resident of this community. Rev. L.M. Grigsby was in charge of the services.

Casketbearers were H.E. Greenwood, M.D. Lang, George Thorson, John Parker, K.A. Evans and J.L. Evans. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. J.A. Thorson, Mrs. Hebe Edie, R.L. Fields and A.F. Smith, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. R.R. Honeyman. Claude Barns and Elmer Bass served as ushers. Mrs. K.A. Evans, Mrs. H.E. Greenwood. Mrs. M.D. Lang and Mrs. F.D. Snodgrass were in charge of the floral offerings.

The following life sketch was read:

Edward Burton Birdsall was a son of Henry and Phoebe A. Birdsall. He was born in Henderson county, Ill., March 24, 1864, and passed away suddenly in his home in Emerson March 9, 1942, aged 77 years, 11 months and 15 days. The body was removed to the Comer funeral home where it lay in state until the hour of the funeral.

When he was 14 years old he came with his parents to Fremont county, Iowa. He attended the Fremont county schools and the Western Normal college at Shenandoah. In 1891 the family moved to Emerson which has been his home since that time.

On March 18, 1897 he was united in marriage to Mary D. Rowley. His wife and his three children, Edward R. Birdsall, Mrs. Avis Taylor and Mrs. Louise Whisler, survive him. He is survived also by two stepchildren, Mrs. Clyde Rhoads of Glenwood and L.W. Rowley of Pasadena, Cal., also one sister, Mrs. F.J. Wallace, of Glenwood and one brother, H.W. Birdsall, of Claremont, S.D. There are also 10 grandchildren.

Burial was in the Emerson cemetery.
