Funeral Services Held for John D. Ailshire

John David Ailshire who lived on the Thomas M. Davis farm north of Malvern died Thursday evening, Feb. 20, at the Jennie Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs. He was taken suddenly ill and was rushed to the hospital February 3. Since 1921 Mr. Ailshire has been employed by Mr. Davis.

J.D. Ailshire was born Feb. 25, 1878 at Athelstan, Iowa and would have been sixty-three the 25th of this month. He was the son of John M. and Martha Ailshire. His father came to this state from Tennessee and his mother came from Indiana. When a youth Mr. Ailshire united with the Baptist church at Athelstan. He lived most of his life in and around his native village. One brother and seven sisters mourn his death. They are Frank Ailshire, Blockton, Ia., Nellie Townsend, Bedford, Ia., Effie Walston, Thurman, Ia., Susie Sickels, Payette, Idaho, Lena Turner, Afton, Okla., Alice Kinser, Topeka, Kans., Mary Barber, Wamego, Kans., and Dorothy Bowman, Perry, Kans.

For a number of years Mr. Ailshire taught in the rural schools of Taylor county. He was a rural mail carrier for several years at Athelstan, at Farley and in 1918 a substitute carrier at Randolph. The more recent years of his life have been spent in farming.

He and Viola Cordell of Athelstan were united in marriage July 19, 1911. Three daughters were born to them, Mrs. Rachel Windom of Malvern, Mrs. Cordice Dooley and Miss Bernice Ailshire of Plattsmouth, Neb. Seven grandchildren share their sorrow.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, in the Mansfield Funeral home in Malvern. The services held at two o'clock were conducted by the Rev. Peter Jacobs, pastor of the Congregational church at Tabor. Marlin Richardson sang three hymns with Mrs. Francis Kline as accompanist. The casket bearers were John Waller, Paul Glynn, Harold McCain, Henry Miller, Tom M. Davis and Clarence Robinson.

Interment was in the Malvern cemetery.
