Foster Service Held Here Saturday

Funeral held for A.W. Foster longtime Mills county man who died Thursday. Burial in Malvern cemetery.

Funeral services were held in the Myers-James Funeral home on Sunday afternoon for A.W. Foster, longtime Malvern resident, but who had made his home here in Glenwood for several years with his son, Lyman B. Foster. Rev. H.G. Parker of the Glenwood Methodist church was in charge of the service. Mrs. E.L. Hiatt acted as soloist with Mrs. Clyde Rhoads at the piano. Those serving as pallbearers were Berwyn Hamilton, Marlin Young, Ward Slothower, Frank Broadfield, Robert Davis and Hugh LaRue.

The following brief life sketch was read at the service:

Augustus Wright Foster, long time citizen of Mills county, Iowa, was born on Febr. 10, 1868 in the state of New Jersey. During his childhood days, he came with his parents to Greenview, Ill. It was there on October 7th, 1891 he was united in marriage with Nellie Stone.

Three sons were born to this union, all of whom are living; Stewart S. Foster, of Hamburg, Iowa; Hugh J. Foster, of the U.S. army; Lyman B. Foster, Glenwood. There is one grand-daughter, Carol Foster, of Ames, Iowa. A brother and sister also survive, Joseph Foster, of Bloomington, Ill.; and Mrs. Anna Grimsley, of Decatur, Ill. These with other relatives and many friends survive to cherish his memory.

Mr. and Mrs. Foster came to Malvern in 1902 where they established their home and resided until the death of the wife and mother which occurred July 24th, 1931.

Mr. Foster was a blacksmith by profession, which he faithfully followed through the years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and also the Woodman of the World lodge.

He was a kindly man, known and respected by all who were priviledged to know him. Sometime after the passing of Mrs. Foster he came to Glenwood making his home with his son, Lyman, where he was given devoted and kind care by his son, during several years of failing health. He was taken to a Council Bluffs hospital some ten days before his death where everything possible was done for his welfare. He passed away on May 14th at the age of 74 years, three months and 4 days.

Following the service here the body was taken to the Malvern cemetery for interment in the family lot.
