February 12, 1942The entire community was saddened and shocked by the sudden death of Mrs. Robert Bachman. She had been in usual health up until a few hours before her death. She and her husband were attending the theatre in Malvern, Saturday evening, where she fainted. A doctor was summoned and had her removed at once to the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Mrs. Bachman never regained consciousness and passed away Sunday afternoon. The body was removed to the Raynor Funeral Home in Glenwood, where it remained until the hour of the service.
Loretta Smith Backman, was born at Neiburier, Nebraska, Dec. 5, 1921, and passed away at the Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs, Sunday, February 8, 1942, at the age of 21 years, two months and three days.
She was united with the church at Neiburier, Nebraska, and which membership she retained at the time of her untimely death.
On August 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Robert Bachman at Rockport, Missouri, and to this union was born two children, Larry Lee who died in infancy and Gale Duane, one year old, who survives his mother as well as her husband, Robert Bachman, her mother, Mrs. Inas McGlade, of Malvern, her father, Roy Smith, of Neiburier, Nebraska, three brothers, three sisters, two half-brothers, Lyle and Bobby at home in Malvern, and a host of more distant relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Silver City Baptist church with the Pastor Roy W. Gater in charge.
Music for the service was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Geo. Hays, Miss Viva Benedict, LeRoy Anderson and Kenneth Deitchler with Mrs. F.W. Anderson at the piano.
Mrs. Roy W. Gater and Mrs. J.B. Dovenspike were in charge of the floral offerings.
Those serving as pallbearers were Ernest Thrapp, Clifford Jones, Dean Bankus, Theodore Bankus, Forrest Smith and George Burgoin.
The body was laid to rest in the Silver City cemetery.
