Mills County Tribune
June 4, 1914We noted in last Monday’s paper of the taking to St. Bernard’s hospital of Mrs. Nancy Hall. She was taken there last Friday and lived only until Sunday morning, passing away at 5:30 a.m.
Mrs. Hall had been an invalid for several months, in fact has been failing physically and mentally for the past year and a half.
She had been confined to her bed for the past six weeks. She has lived most of her life in Hastings. Her husband has been dead several years. She is survived by three sons and two daughters. The sons are O.S., J.H. and J.U. Hall, the daughters are Mrs. Ernest Baldozier and Mrs. Geo. Harris. All the children live in Hastings or vicinity except Mrs. Harris, who lives in Omaha. Besides her children she leaves eight brothers and two sisters.
The funeral occurred at Hastings on Tuesday at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Gable of the Hastings M.E. church.
Nancy Starr was born Dec. 25, 1852 in Mills County, Iowa, and was the daughter of Artham and Elizabeth Starr. She was one of a large family of children, most of whom, including her parents, are dead.
She was married Sept 16, 1871 to Heber Hall and to this union nine children were born five of whom, those above mentioned are still living.
The deceased has been a resident of Hastings all of her life. Her husband died in 1886 and she has been compelled to make her own way ever since. As has been mentioned she was taken to St. Bernards hospital in hopes of relief, but death came within two days after her arrival there.
Mrs. Hall was a member of the M.E. church, which she joined in early life. She was a true friend, and good neighbor and will be greatly missed. Her burial was at South Grove cemetery. The family and relatives desire to express their appreciation and gratitude for the sympathy and many favors shown them during the time of their trial and bereavement.
