Ella M. Conrad, 76, of Red Oak and formerly Emerson, died at the Good Samaitan Center in Red Oak on April 24. Services were held for Mrs. Conrad on April 27 at Mansfield-Hertzz Funeral Home in Malvern. Graveside services were April 28 at the Hastings Cemetery.

Mrs. Conrad, one of four children to John Fayette and Winnie Golden (Gustin) Simpson, was born April 20, 1929 in Red Oak. In 1946, Mrs. Conrad married Thomas Lester Fort. To this union three children were blessed, Gloria, Mary Jane and Mike. Mrs. Conrad later divorced from Thomas and returned to Emerson to live with her mother. She married Donald Earl Conrad in 1959 and to this union two more children were blessed, Tim and Terry. In 1967 they moved to Cape Fair, Mo., where they leased and operated the Cape Fair Restaurant. In addition to Mrs. Conrad, the three older children worked to help make the family restaurant a success. They later moved to Plattsmouth, Neb. and Mrs. Conrad began her 19 year career as a resident escort at the Glenwood State Hospital School in Glenwood. Mrs. Conrad later divorced from Donald and returned to live in Emerson. Mrs. Conrad was a member of the Emerson United Methodist Church. Among her many enjoyments were making crafts and potpourri and managing her own craft store known as E.G’s. She also loved to camp and fish.

Mrs. Conrad was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold Simpson and John Simpson; infant sister, Caroline Simpson; daughter, Mary Jones; and sister-in-law, Nettie Robbins. She is survived by her children Gloria Vanderpool of Emerson, Mike Fort and wife Lana of Red Oak, Tim Fort of Emerson and Terry Conrad and companion Vicki Maschka of Emerson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ena Mae Simpson; nieces and nephews; and other friends and relatives.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
