John M. Pearce, for many years a resident of this vicinity, passed away at his home in Peaceville after many weeks of weary suffering, Thursday, April 23. The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the Baptist church and was largely attended by his old friends and neighbors who had known and respected him for years past. The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.E. Wilkins, and the pallbearers were his old neighbors.

John M. Pearce was born December 13, 1847, in Hamilton County, Indiana. He came to this state when he was 19 years old, where he has since made his home. He was married March 6, 1873, to Elizabeth Walker. To this union was born eight children, six of whom survive him.

He was a member of the Baptist church of Malvern for many years and at the close of his life, although suffering intensely from cancer, he rejoiced in his religious experience and spoke words of faith and comfort to those about him.

Mr. Pearce was an honest hard working man all his life, and had many excellent traits of character that won for him a great many friends who sorrow over his loss.
