April 20, 2005Viola Christena Hartley, 85, died at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak on April 13. Services were held at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern before internment at Hastings Cemetery. Pastor Mike Stevens presided.
Mrs. Hartley was born near Silver City on Feb. 13, 1920, one of seven children to Anna Kristina (Christofferson) Pierce and Arthur DeVore Pierce. She married Adris Manford Hartley in Lincoln, Nev., on Sept. 6, 1962. They lived in Glenwood until purchasing acreage west of Malvern in the Hillsdale community. She was a homemaker caring for their acreage while working as a housekeeper and a waitress. She and Adris were married 33 years at the time of his death on Jan 6, 1996. She enjoyed being a Retired Senior Volunteer and working part-time at West Central Development and the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Malvern.
Mrs. Hartley was preceded in death by her parents, husband infant brothers Vernon Pierce and Donald Pierce, infant sisters Mary Ann Pierce and Martha Pierce, brother Arthur Pierce and son Darrel Hartley and Adris’s daughters, Donna Hartley and Darlene Hartley. She is survived by her children, Virgil Coleman and his wife Jeanette of Omaha, Robert Coleman and his wife Lydia of Parker, Colo; daughter, Ruth Weak and her husband Donald of Glenwood; daughter-in-law Nancy Hartley of Glenwood; sister Lucille Taylor of Henderson, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
