FUNERAL SERVICES WERE FRIDAY FOR ROSS C. ATKINSON

Funeral services were held at Mansfield Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. for Ross C. Atkinson, the Rev. Wayne Bass, officiant.

Casket bearers were Michael Martin, Harold Swett, Verle Trively, Eugene Park, Royce Wederquist and Ralph Costello.

Caring for the flowers were Mrs. Eugene Park, Mrs. Michael Martin and Mrs. Verl Trively.  Henry Schnoor, soloist, sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Mrs. Donald Aistrope, pianist.

The following life sketch was read:

Ross C. Atkinson, son of George and Lida Atkinson, pioneers of this community, was born Aug 17,1881 on the farm home 3 1/2 miles northeast of Randolph.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles, Fred, Floyd and a sister Grace. In early life he attended the Methodist church of Randolph and after his marriage he joined the Christian church of Malvern, serving as deacon several years.  He remained active in the church as long as his health permitted.

On Aug. 1, 1907 he was united in marriage to Bessie May Cozad. To this union were born five children.  Effie Lucille who died in infancy, Theron, Ila, Maxine and Winifred.

After living in Malvern for about 20 years they moved back to the farm of his birthplace and built a home in which they have lived for the past 32 years.

He had been in failing health for the past two months and was given loving care in his home by his faithful wife and daughters. The past two weeks he had been at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hatfield, where he passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and enjoyed so much being with his children, grandchildren and great grand-children.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Bessie; children, Theron Atkinson of Amarillo, Tex.; Mrs. Ila Waller, Silver City; Mrs. Maxine Hatfield, Malvern; Mrs. Winifred Myers, Omaha; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.  Interment was in the Malvern cemetery.

Attending from out of town were Theron Atkinson, Amarillo, Tex.; Randy Waller, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Myers, Mrs. Sheila Freis, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Springer, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Manriquez, Mrs. Eva Garner and David Manriquez, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hatfield and Mrs. Gladys Graham, Red Oak; Mrs. Dorothea Atkinson, Mrs. Millie Rummery, Mrs. Eva Adams, Farragut; Mr.and Mrs. Charles Goodell, Glen-wood; Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Green and Mrs. Omer Cozad, Strahan; Mr. and Mrs. Scott Briley, New Market.

Mr. and Mrs. Conia Coy and Karen, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Swett, Mrs. Alfred Clites, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Trively, Vera Fichter, H.B.
