DEATH OF SAMUEL SCOTT

Samuel Scott, a former well known resident of Hastings, died at his home in Lincoln, Nebr., last Sunday. He was stricken with paralysis while riding on a street car the Friday preceding and never recovered. All his family were with him at the time of his death. The remains were brought to Hastings on Tuesday and the funeral conducted at the M.E. church at one o’clock, by Rev. J.W. Wright. The Odd Fellows had charge of the services and met the body at the train and escorted it to the church and conducting a part of the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Malvern cemetery. He is survived by his wife and eight children and a number of other relatives in this county. We will publish the obituary next week.

OBITUARY OF SAMUEL SCOTT

The obituary of Samuel Scott, an account of whose death appeared in last week’s Leader, reached us too late for publication then. We append the account, taken from the Lincoln Daily News of Dec. 12:

Samuel Scott, the man who suffered a stroke of paralysis on a South Tenth street car several days ago, died yesterday at his home, 2201 So. Tenth street. The body will be taken Tuesday morning to Hastings, Ia., for interment.

Mr. Scott is survived by a widow and eight children. The four daughters are Mrs. O.S. Burke of Palmer, Nebr., Mrs. Amos Hunt of Arcadia, Nebr., Mrs. D.H. McGee of Clinton, Minn., and Miss Pearle M. Scott of Lincoln.

The four surviving sons are Leslie E. of Fullerton, Nebr., Albert of Lincoln, Walter L. of Hastings, Ia., and Marcus B. of Alberta, Canada.

Mr. Scott was a member of Co. F of the Twenty-first Missouri infantry and afterwards a member of Co. D of the Forth-fifth Iowa infantry. He served two years in the civil war, was a member of the Farragut post of the G.A.R. and of the I.O.O.F. at Palmer, Nebr.

The family wish to extend to the motorman and conductor and also their neighbor, Mr. L. Bauer, their sincere thanks for the kindness shown in assisting Mr. Scott after he was stricken while a passenger on the street car.

All of the family were present at the funeral exception Marcus B. and Mrs. Hunt.
