Death of Mrs. G.A. Sawyer

After a long illness, preceded by an operation and previous ill health, Mrs. G.A. Sawyer passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clark E. Hilton, three miles southeast of Malvern, Saturday night, July 10. Mrs. Sawyer had been here a good deal of the time for the past two or three years and had many friends who deeply regret her demise.

Mary E. George was born near Danville, Ill. March 29, 1842 and departed this life July 10, 1909. In her early girlhood she came with her parents to Fayette County, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to G.A. Sawyer. Eight children, six sons and two daughters were born to them, all of whom with the husband mourn her loss. She was one of seven sisters who grew to womanhood. Three of whom are living, Mrs. C. Hoyt of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. J.N. Iliff (?) of Webster City, Iowa and Miss Lucretia George of West Union, Ia. Her only brother having died a martyr for his country during the civil war.

The names of the children are Mrs. Bertha A. Hilton, Malvern, Ia; Geo. E. Sawyer, Price, Utah; Roy H. Sawyer, Raymond, Nebr.; Ray R. Sawyer, Whittier, Calif; Herbert H. Sawyer, James E. Sawyer and Myron L. Sawyer of Sioux City, Iowa and Mrs. Ethel C. Gipe of Flagstaff, Arizona.

While still a young girl she untied with the M.E. church and lived a consistent Christian life always. Her last request being that her children meet her beyond.

The obsequies were conducted by Rev. W.A. Black according to the ritual of the Methodist Episcopal church on Monday at 2 p.m. The funeral sermon was preached at the home of Mrs. Hilton at White Could and the interment was made at the Malvern cemetery.
